Suboxone Treatment

Drug dependence has already been termed as one of the most severe public health crises worldwide. Opioid dependence (which involves heroin as well as morphine) is a major part of this problem. In just Europe, there’re about 1 million intravenous drug consumers. Even more alarming is the fact that this number is projected to be 300% higher in the U.S. Did you know that the greater part of these jeopardized population remain untreated?

Opioid dependence, as is known by clinical science, is highly chronic and harms people as a relapsing medical condition requiring longer term treatment as well as patient support. Additionally, several of such intravenous drug consumers share syringes as well as needles. This is a horrible practice leading to the spread of severe blood-borne infections, which includes HIV or human immunodeficiency virus, Hepatitis B and C!

At this time, the dependence upon opiate is a major threat to public health – just said earlier. Some dependence treatments might be dispensed solely in a small number of centers that are focused in addiction cures. There aren't sufficient clinics for addiction treatment for assisting all patients who seek treatment. In the middle of all that, Suboxone has emerged as the pioneering narcotic drug now available under direct authorization of the DATA or Drug Abuse Treatment Act.

In fact, Suboxone treatment has DATA authorization especially for treating opiate dependence. Many physicians are prescribing this medication. And it is safe to assume that this advanced therapeutic medicine will offer added number of patients the grand chance to get treated.

Suboxone Treatment

Suboxone treatment involves buprenorphine and naloxone. It is now available for the treatment of mild and severe cases of opioid addiction. Did you ever imagine why naloxone has been added to the formulation? According to pharmacists, the role of naloxone is to prevent intravenous misuses, while reducing the underlying symptoms related to opiate dependence. The key role of Suboxone treatment is to heal addiction problems in adults (as well as adolescents who age over 16 years) and have actually agreed to get treated for addiction.

Once detoxification (in the addicted) is done, Suboxone will be applied in the treatment’s maintenance phase. Lately, when it comes to the treatment of opiate addiction, Suboxone has turned out to be a drug chosen as a substitute of major medications like methadone. The application of Suboxone treatment is comparatively less strictly controlled compared to other addiction medicines. That’s because it has a comparatively lower possibility of abuse. Similarly, it is comparatively less dangerous in terms of overdose risks. Since patients advance on therapies pretty smoothly, physicians in charge might write prescriptions for take-home supplies of the follow-up medication.

Suboxone treatment - Prescription

Only the physicians with direct approval from the DEA or Drug Enforcement Agency are capable of starting in-office treatment and provide prescriptions for ongoing medication. And take the instance of CSAT (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment), which maintains a really active database for helping patients to locate veteran doctors.

Process of administration

Suboxone has been made available in a tablet form. It’s at all times administered sublingually. And the pill is supposed to be placed beneath your tongue till it’s fully dissolved. For your kind information, gulping or sucking the pill doesn’t provide you with the desired therapeutic benefit. By placing underneath your tongue, this pill will dissolve gradually and should be fully absorbed within 10 to 20 minutes.

Suboxone treatment usually is administered under directly medical supervision. In the introductory phase, the patient will go through the basics of properly taking this medication. S/he will be also educated about dose adjustments in this phase. Suboxone treatment usually starts with a minimal dose.

Suboxone treatment is for those suffering from painkiller abuse or opiate addiction.

SUBOXONE combines a partial opioid agonist (buprenorphine) and an opioid antagonist (naloxone) in a 4:1 (buprenorphine: naloxone) ratio.

Buprenorphine (the primary active compound) reduces patients' opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is administered to reduce dependence and misuse of opioids.

Drug abuse is a predominant problem especially for those abusing heroin or morphine. In Europe there are 1 million drug abusers and in North America, 3 million users. These people have a long history of drug abuse that is not treated. They require long term treatment and counselling.  These drugs have to be injected in the blood stream and the users are at the risk contracting HIV and Hepatitis B or C.

Suboxone Dispensation

Opioid dependence treatments like methadone can be dispensed only at few centres. There are not enough treatments available for all those seeking help. Suboxone is the first drug available under the Drug Abuse Treatment Act (2000) for the treatment of opioid addiction that can be prescribed by a physician. This gives more people access to this treatment.

Suboxone (buprenorphine with naloxone) is currently available for the maintenance treatment of opioid addiction. The intention of adding naloxone to the formulation is to deter intravenous misuse and reduce the symptoms of opiate dependence.

Suboxone treatment is intended for use in adults and adolescents more than 16 years of age who have agreed to be treated for addiction.

The individual is first detoxified and then suboxone is used for maintenance.

Suboxone Treatment

Suboxone treatment is more prevalent than methadone since it has less potential for abuse, and it is less strictly controlled by the government. Also it has less harmful side effects. Patients can also be prescribed this drug to be taken at home.

Only registered practioners can prescribe this drug. It is in the tablet form and has to be placed below the tongue till fully dissolved. 2mg and 8 mg tablets are available with 2mg usually being sufficient for most patients. The treatment reduces drug craving and anxiety.

Though suboxone can be used for detoxification it is popularly used for maintenance by those who want to quit dependence on the drug and have a stable lifestyle.

Control

Manufactured by Reckitt-Benckiser, it is closely monitored by the FDA and other agencies to ensure it is as less risky as possible. There is constant monitoring of drug administration so that there are minimal chances of abuse, that can be detected early if they are there.

Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and other agencies like Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) monitor abuse of the drug.

Hey Jennifer...

I just cleaned up after an opioid addiction on this stuff. It's amazing how effective it is. Basically it blocks all of your opioid receptors, and you will feel weird on it, but taking an opiod is useless due to the blockage - it has no affect at all and is totally useless. My understanding is that it works like this for Heroin as well - it's just totally ineffective. I went from a dozen Norco a day to ZERO in a week. It was a real emotional roller-coaster for me though - I suffer from depression and anxiety so you may not have this issue. No shakes or any other physical affects though. Really amazing.
