Heavy Duty

Heavy construction is almost an integral feature of a recumbent exercise bike. This actually makes the bike more likely that your working out really benefits. On the other hand, cheaper, lighter weight machines tend to shake and move as they are pedaled hard. This sometimes discourages people from pushing harder. And you can’t deny the disturbance caused by these kinds of moving and shaking.

Lighter exercise bikes usually sway/rock. This actually loosens the joints. This also starts an overall process which permanently damages the bike in due course. That's the reason rugged construction is a must when you expect to workouts which produce results.

Recumbent Exercise Bike Features

Bikes which come with pre-programmed work outs in addition to magnetic drives, are designed to fight boredom. In fact, programmed workouts do vary in terms of resistance. This simulates the actual ride. And that is a simple way for putting in some fun within the fitness routine rather than doing the boring things again and again. Boredom is known to be the prime hindrance on the way of fitness programs. If you have the appropriate features on your recumbent exercise bike, that shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Schwinn Recumbent Exercise Bike

One of the most popular exercise bike manufacturers is Schwinn. They're known for their road bikes as well as their exercise models. They have consistently released products with the highest quality level mixed with a good amount of affordability. Chances are if you've been a gym or fitness studio member in the last few years and used an exercise bike there, or other fitness machine, it was made by Schwinn. Thus if you shop for a Schwinn recumbent exercise bike for your home, you can be assured that you're getting a product that is worthy of large scale use at most gyms around the US.

Recumbent Exercise Bike Reviews

Shopping for exercise equipment is not a task to take lightly. This is gear you'll be putting time (and hopefully sweat!) into on a regular basis, so it's important to do research and make sure you get the right product for you. Plus, if you've done any shopping or browsing about online, you've by now seen that these machines aren't cheap! It is important to find a quality exercise machine for your home, so it is highly recommended that you search on Amazon or other sites to find recumbent exercise bike reviews before you make a purchase. The worst thing is to buy something and then find out it's not what you're looking for.

Recumbent Exercise Bike Rating

There are many sites that will give you a recumbent exercise bike rating for make and model you are interested in. These ratings are a way to quickly see at a glance what the general consumer opinion about each product so you can make a more informed buying decision. Not all recumbent exercise bikes are created equal, and since you're going to pay out a base amount at the least, it is worth shopping around and comparing ratings to get the right bike for you. Ratings can be found at sites like Amazon and Walmart.

Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike

Once you've got your new exercise bike delivered to your home and set up, you've got to use it properly. Fitness on recumbent exercise bikes is a fairly straightforward process - set aside some time each day to ride your new bike. Start with 10 minutes per session, and increase one minute per day. Within a couple weeks you'll be at 30 minutes per day, and should already be in much better shape than you began. After reaching this level, you can start raising the resistance level on the bike to make each workout harder. I guarantee that you'll be losing weight and getting in shape in no time by following this simple fitness plan with a recumbent exercise bike.

Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike

By far the most popular model of Schwinn home bike is the Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bike. The most current model in this line is the Schwinn 240 recumbent exercise bike, but it is still possible to find the 230 or 230i model online or at home retailers like Walmart, Sears, or Kmart. This model is used in gyms around the country, and includes everything you need to get in shape quickly and without back problems and back pain.

Best Recumbent Exercise Bike

Picking the best recumbent exercise bike is more of a subjective process than people would like it to be. At the end of the day, they're all exercise bikes which feature the riders sitting back in a reclining position rather than the standard racing style. They usually also include electronics that allow you to track your workouts and give you various data like calories burned, distance traveled, time elapsed, and so on. Some newer and more advanced models have TV screens built in so you can be entertained while exercising. For a no-frills model, the best recumbent exercise bikes are made by Proform or Schwinn. Specifically, we recommend the Schwinn 230 or 240 bike.

ProForm Recument Exercise Bike

A ProForm recumbent exercise bike is a great alternative to more expensive and feature-filled models by other brands. Their two most popular models are the ProForm GR 80 and the ProForm GR 90 Trainer Cycle. They also have the high end ProForm GT 120 Cycle, but this is strictly for those for whom budget is not a problem, or people who are very serious about losing weight at home with an exercise bike. ProForm models are good quality, have necessary features like workout and heart rate monitoring, and has many built in workouts.

Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike

A magnetic recumbent exercise bike uses magnets to apply tension and pressure to the fly wheel, which allows you to raise the resistance while you ride the bike, and alternate between making your workout tougher or easier. This is used by athletes to simulate biking up and down hills. It's also used to break up monotonous workouts with a change of pace for the rider. This also has important fitness implications, especially when using an HIIT (high intensity interval training) plan.

Stamina Recumbent Exercise Bike

Many people are interested in recumbent exercise bikes by Stamina, and see that they're lower in price than other models. The question is, is that worth it? We don't think they are, because these bikes don't have heart rate monitoring, or other simple features that most other brands offer. For this reason, it's worth it to spend a little more if you can afford it and get a more full featured model. If, however, your budget is tight and you want a true bare-bones exercise bike to get in shape with, then by all means check out a Stamina recumbent exercise bike.

Upright or Recumbent Exercise Bike?

Many people wonder whether they should get an upright or recumbent exercise bike. I think most of the question arises because when you see racing bikers like Lance Armstrong on the Tour de France, you never see anyone leisurely riding a reclined or recumbent bike. In truth, you're not going to win any racing awards while reclining like that, but if racing isn't your goal, and fitness, exercise, and weight loss are, then a reclining or recumbent exercise bike is really just as useful as an upright exercise bike. And if the idea of more or less relaxing while working out appeals to you, then maybe getting a recumbent bike is better simply because you'll be more likely to use it.

Recumbent Exercise Bikes - Consider Commercial Grade

Commercial grade bikes surely will cost higher. But they do not cost too much either! The benefit of getting commercial grade machines is that each part of these bikes is made and meant for heavy duty use. You can get heavier construction in addition to powerful electronics and attention to even minute details while you are allowed to seat in comfort. Mid range priced bikes offer better value. On the whole, commercial grade machines offer top-notch features with little or no compromises!

Perfect for Women

Women at times are bound with time limitations for their routine workouts. Oftentimes, that means they do not get much to be done. So, a recumbent exercise bike comes with sheer advantages, since it works out lots of major muscle groups in the body pretty quickly. Additionally, the perfect recumbent exercise bike can also come with a suitable cardiac workout coupled with muscle toning workouts as well.

You see, working out with such a bike will actually targets your legs, both of your upper as well as lower muscle groups (especially the hips). Those who have rather larger muscles and have problem areas, recumbent exercise bike workouts can heal and improve things in an efficient manner. That explains how you get the greatest results within minimum time span.

Bikes that make the rider sit in a reclined position while he/she pedals are known as recumbent exercise bikes. Unlike the traditional bicycle that have been existing for years, the recumbent exercise bikes are fairly new, and has been growing in popularity due to its numerous advantages over the traditional one.

Advantages of a recumbent exercise bike:

Ergonomics: These bikes are considered to be designed in such a way that the riders weight is distributed much more evenly and comfortably than it is on a traditional one.

Aerodynamic advantage: The reclined position makes the legs more forward, which in turn gives much faster speeds. In fact a recumbent bike holds the records for the fastest bike till now!

Suitable for everyone: Regardless of the fitness levels, these bikes suit everyone. As you have the option to adjust the settings, you can choose one with more or less resistance. If you are overweight, this bike can be comfortable for you. And even if you are an athlete, you can set the resistance level to a much higher level.

Offer a sustainable workout: A lot of trainers recognize the advantages of this bike when it comes to exercising. Hence a recumbent exercise bike is a great option for an effective workout. With its numerous variation, such as flat, hilly, and easy levels, these bikes make sure the workout is boring.

Safer for your body: Other exercise bikes require you to hunch forward often resulting in a stiff back. Unlike those, these bikes need you to lower towards the ground while sitting back, which is much more safer. Such a position prevents your body weight to put pressure on your joints, hence even if you have a delicate back or knee; you can use this bike without any hassle.

For both men and women: Men often tend to neglect their lower bodies when working out, as it is much easier to do an upper body workout without any machines. Also the comfortable seats make the cardio workout for men a pain free and a much better experience.

For women, these bikes are perfect for toning your legs and butts. You can adjust the setting to help affect different parts of your legs, for a much leaner and thinner look. This bike is particularly good for your inner thighs.

A variety of features and models: There are a variety of options when it comes to different recumbent exercise bike models. The basic models give information on calories burnt, time, resistance level etc as a backlit display. A very popular model is the one that includes a music port where you can easily plug in you music player and enjoy your workout.

Hence recumbent exercise bikes are considered to be a great investment for one’s health. As these bikes are safe, good for anybody (irrespective of fitness levels and gender), and very effective, it is well worth the purchase. Go buy a recumbent exercise bike, and stay healthy!

thanks for this review-- I'm in the market for a recumbant bike and will take into account your tips about the weight of the bike and about magnetic bikes. It struck me as I read that it would be really cool if the homes of the future had a sort of built-in recumbant exercise bike route that you could pedal around in to get your housework tasks done, upstairs, around the bedrooms,etc... now, I would REALLY be interested in that lol. ~Cynthia

I was attracted by your title to read. Interesting article- well written however it does not tackle the building muscle aspect of the title which leads me to feel somewhat disappointed. I was actually thinking 'how can I gain muscle through cycling' and the article doesn't address that. CF
