Physical Rehabilitation in Inpatient Rehab Centers
66Inpatient Rehab or inpatient rehabilitation is a place where patients suffering from disabling conditions such as stroke, heart attack, joint replacement surgery or amputation can rediscover their independence to lead a productive life. in other words, an inpatient rehab is a place where these types of patients can rejuvenate themselves. Inpatient rehab can also help people dealing with chronic conditions such as lung disease, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and muscular dystrophy.
Inpatient rehab can also said to be a residential service offered to people in a residential setting, rather than to people who travel to a clinic for rehabilitation appointments. Inpatient rehabilitation programs are usually attended by people because they need extensive boosts of physical or emotional support. This emotional support is something that outpatient rehabilitation centers cannot provide to their patients. Inpatient rehab is offered in a variety of settings. It can range from private clinics in remote locations for people struggling with drug addiction to physical rehabilitation programs attached to hospitals so that residents can instantly access the emergency medical care if they are in need of it.
Rehabilitation services are provided to people with physical and psychological needs. Inpatient physical rehabilitation programs are generally used for those who have been through severe physical trauma such as burn victims, bombing victims or those who have undergone or have been involved in major car accidents. This kind of rehabilitation programs generally include sessions that help patients in developing their physical strength, learning to use their bodies and adjusting to prosthetics and other assistive devices.
Inpatient Rehab Goals
Inpatient rehabs work with the goal of bringing their back to life as quickly as possible. They generally have a dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists and a full-time medical director. All of them take exclusive care of each patient and spend quality time with them to help them regain so that the patients can have a functional living. At various inpatient rehabs, patients participate in intensive, individualized treatment plans that are set in beautiful, home-like settings. These are mainly done in order to meet the goals set by the patients, their families and the therapy team. Inpatient rehabs also encourage participation of fami8ly and friends in course of the treatment. The treatment procedure includes goal setting, therapy and education.
Patients have a typically structured day in an inpatient physical rehabilitation program. One part of the day is devoted to follow up medical care which is designed to address ongoing medical issues and another part f the day involves physical and occupational therapy to help the patient in building up strengths and skills. Outcomes would automatically be better if the patients start with their physical therapies at an earlier stage. Inpatient rehabilitation facilities offer patients the opportunity to get necessary complex medical care while getting back on track with their lives. Providing psychological support is the best way to deal with the patients as physical trauma mostly tends to be emotionally draining.
Psychological rehabilitation includes assistance with recovery from drug addiction along with rehabilitation for people with mental illness. This category of inpatient rehabilitation provides patients with a structured environment in which one has to work on emotional issues in a supportive space with other patients and care providers.

Thanks for differentiating the two different kinds of rehab facilities.
"Rehab" has become primarily associated with drug and alcohol treatment.
But the vast majority of rehab facilities are of the other type, however.
I know people do go tosuch facilities as a stopping point on their way home from hospital/surgery. Lots of physical therapy, etc.
However, in my experience, rehabs don't have such a healthy connotation. They are where elderly patients who are too sick to go home go to die....
