Bar Stool Cushion

It hardly takes a philosopher to realize what it’s like sitting on a painfully hard wood bar stool that has absolutely no padding. And it gets even worse with iron stools. When you are waiting there for too long for a friend or someone, the time is likely to be pretty long with that kind of seating arrangements. That’s where bar stools cushions come in!

These cushions are meant to make your long waiting and chatting painless. You can’t do without a great seating arrangement at the bar, if you have just had a very long day and need something relaxing. And you realize the importance of good quality of bar stools cushions when the stool doesn’t have any back support to recline over. And when this types of problems are too much to handle for a ‘loyal’ customer at the pub, s/he might be seriously considering switching permanently to another pub.

Fortunately, these bar stools can be used in household environments too! They are handy for various purposes. And that’s why some companies are letting you have your own customized bar stools cushions. The sheer advantage of these custom cushions is that, you will be able to select just the fabric that you wish. May be you’d want to match a quality textile fabric. And it is also common for people to just toss cushions onto the lounge chairs close at hand. Many others simply prefer going for simple color coordination. One of the downsides of such customized bar stools cushions is that, when you are not skilled about sewing, just paying a little more is all it takes to have the vendor (or somebody else) sew it for you! And you can count on one thing… the little more you pay here is definitely worth it!

Bar Stool Cushion Considerations

Oftentimes stools do not include any lumbar back rest arrangements. This means you’ll rarely have any option of tying down for keeping those cushions right in place. If that is the case, it’s better to go for the “rubbery” grip style, which involves pad cleverly sewn in the cushion. A good example is the “gripper cushions.” And even though the stool comes with a smart framed backrest for tying the cushion as well, the gripped under-pad can actually do wonders to keep the padding right in place. The seat padding will make sure everything stays where you want it. It’s also worth considering cushions with memory foam inserts that will mold to your sitting preferences.

As opposed to basic kind of kitchen chairs, bar stools come with a bit taller shape. And in some cases, you’ll find the cushion dislodged – especially when you attempt mounting the stool. Still, backless bar stools sometimes come with an exclusive alternative of using the cushions with a well suited elastic “skirt.” According to many experts, this will sufficiently wrap around beneath the stool seat’s overhanging circular lip. These are likely to be your most cherished option when you wish to secure the cushion - especially when used together with the grip beneath the pad.

And in many cases, when the bar stools come with a suitable back support along with an armrests for framing the pad in, a good idea here would be not to consider using any kind of anchoring systems. Still, it’s advisable that getting tie straps sewn as a minimum (at the rear 2 corners for keeping the bar stool cushions right in place). Additionally, be sure to consider the underlying dimensions very carefully, since you’d surely wish those tie straps to stay lined up with a well suited tie down location (onto the back of the stool). Sometimes, this is much of a problem while you’re trying to buy readymade universal sized bar stools cushions.

Round Bar Stool Cushions

By far the most common of bar stool cushions that you see in bars, and in home entertainment centers, home bars, and man caves around the country are round bar stools. Probably because they're the easiest to sit in, especially when less than sober. Round bar stools, and by extension round bar stool cushions, are the easiest to shop for, and will come in the most sizes, colors, prints, and fabrics, so if you're looking for versatility make sure your bar stools are round. Your friends will thank you when they're stumbling about after the third round of drinks.

Outdoor Bar Stool Cushions

Not too many people have their home bars outside the house, but if you have a patio or a deck outside, with some kind of gazebo or shade covering it to keep out wind and rain, consider setting up your bar outside. If you do so, make sure you shop for outdoor bar stool cushions that can stand the elements and weather that come from being outside all the time. These will have thicker and often coarser fabrics. They also probably won't be as bright and colorful as regular cushions, since their colors are more likely to fade faster. Having a bar outside is great when you live in warm weather and want a place to relax (perhaps by the pool!) with your friends and enjoy some home made and mixed drinks.

Bar Stool Cushions with Ties

Bar stool cushions with ties have cloth ties on the bottom of the pillow itself that make it easy to secure upon the bar stool. This isn't the way all cushions work, but the main benefit is that while the cushion is securely attached to the stool, it is still relatively simple to detach the two and change the bar stool cushion without changing the stool itself. This is great if you want to change up your indoor or outdoor decor based on the season, weather, mood, or special occasion. Unless you're very set on having the same cushions on at all times, it's a good idea to buy bar stool cushions with ties.

Replacement Bar Stool Cushions

Very rarely do people shop for something, buy it, and then remain satisfied with it for as long as they own it. Perhaps our tastes change, maybe the weather changes, but whatever it is, all of a sudden we want to change something about it. With bar stools, we're usually pretty happy with the wood, the shape of the stool, whether it's round or square, etc. What we want to change is the brightest and most prominent part. Perhaps just to make it look different, or perhaps because after years of sitting on it, it's a bit out of shape. Whatever the reason, shopping for replacement bar stool cushions is just like buying them all over again. Especially if you bought cushions with ties, replacing them is just a matter of detaching the old pillows and retying the new ones on. Presto! Good as new!

Square Bar Stool Cushions

As written before, most bar stool cushions are round. Round cushions are easier on the backside and also easier to sit in when you've had a couple drinks. Unfortunately it can be easier to slip and fall from round cushions, so unless you've shopped for slip-resistant fabric, it might be a better idea for you simply to buy square bar stools and cushions in the first place. You might not have as much choice of fabric, color, or print, but if you don't find what you like, you can always get custom bar stool cushions made exactly to your specifications. One common problem is that people buy cushions that are too thin, and this is uncomfortable for whoever is sitting on them, so make sure your cushions are thick enough to keep people sitting there.

Backless Bar Stool Cushions

Most of the time, bar stools are backless, but occasionally you can still find bars that have a back attached. If this is the case, when shopping for new cushions you'll have to get a similarly patterned back, or your bar stool will look really out of place and will most likely clash with the rest of your decoration scheme. Typically older stools will have backs, the more modern looks will come with backless bar stool cushions, as this fits with packing more people into a smaller place. While you're at home, though, that may not be a focus, since you're hopefully trying to accommodate and entertain friends and family.

Black Bar Stool Cushions

Black is by far the most popular color for bar stool upholstery. You may have already guessed the reason why, but here it is: if you're running a bar, and people are coming in and getting raging drunk, chances are better than zero someone will make a mess every night. If your bar upholstery is all bright colors, animal prints, or something that draws attention, pretty soon everything fabric will look like it badly needs to be cleaned, and your customers will be turned off and leave. The solution? Buy black bar stool cushions. Keep it simple, and your bar stools won't show wear and tear nearly as easily, and won't frighten anyone away. Plus you can easily clean them after the last customers have gone home. If you're shopping for your home bar setup, definitely look at other colors and patterns, but remember that black bar stool cushions go with everything. Versatility is the name of the game.

How to Make Bar Stool Cushions

Making bar stool cushions is much easier than it sounds like it should be. First draw the correct size pattern you'll need on newspaper by measuring it against the surface of the bar stool seat. Allow an extra .5-1 inch along each side for the seams, lay the pattern on your chosen fabric and cut it. Sew it together and create a cushion shape, and fill it with whatever filling material you choose. Cotton and polyester work the best. Seal it up, and you're done!

Colorful bar stool cushions not only offer a comfortable seating option, they also add to the overall decor of the place making it cheerful and lively.

Moreover, making barstool cushions is a fairly simple craft project. Even though one can sew cushions by hand, sewing them using a sewing machine makes it even easier and the cushions stronger. Cushions are simpler to make for stools with backs, however, it is also fairly simple to make cushions for backless stools.

Things You'll Need to make cushions for stools with a back: Fabric, Polyester pillow fill, Thread, Scissors, Sewing machine

Here is a step-by-step guide to making your own cushions with ruffled edges at home for stools with back rests.

1. Trace the pattern of the stool on a paper and cut it out. Remember, that the cushion will extend over the edges of the seat and so leave out adequate amount of paper.

2. Now, lay the cloth on the paper leaving about an additional 1.5 centimeters or1/2 inch for seaming. The cloth used to make the ruffle should be cut in such a way that it is at least 7 inches in width and double the measure of the three sides of the cushion excluding the one facing the back rest. Say for example, if the seat is 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep, the cloth for the ruffle should be about 92 inches.

3. Now, fold the cloth for the ruffle and press it. Either use a ruffling attachment or run basting stitches along the edges to gather it and give it a ruffled appearance. Next up is narrowly hemming at each end of the ruffle to give it a neat appearance.

4. To make the ties, cut a piece of cloth that is 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. Fold the cloth along its length ½ an inch and press and repeat this once again. Now stitch along the length of the cloth on the folded edge. Now the tie is 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. Now, hem one end of the tie.

5. Next, put down one part of the seat cloth right side facing up. Pin the ruffle to seat fabric sp that the finished edge of the ruffle coincides with the centre of the seat cloth. Now, put the other part of the seat cloth over this so that right side faces downwards. Stitch all sides except the backside to stuff in polyester later.

6. Now fill in polyester and pin 2 ties to the back of each of the cushion and sew it closed. It is to double stitch the areas where ties are attached.

Thus, with the right material and instructions handy making bar stool cushions is a simple task. So what are you waiting for? Get ready and make some gorgeous and bright cushions for your kids room or some cowboy cushions for a rustic bar stool to add charm to your kitchen!
